First Dance - song video

Somewhere, there's actual video of Helen and I dancing our first dance.
I haven't seen it. I'm sure it's good, though. ;-)

But since the song isn't that well known, I'm posting a couple of videos of the song itself. The name of the song is Blue Sky. The band is the Bottle Rockets, an alt-country band.
The first video is only kind of a video - you play it on youtube, but the image never changes:

The second is a concert video - a bit more interesting, but you have to skip to 2:26 for the actual song.

Incidentally, while I'm a big Bottle Rockets fan, the album - also called Blue Sky - isn't, IMHO, their best. I like 24 Hours a Day and The Brooklyn Side more. But, of course, Blue Sky has its moments.

Yesterday's Poem

A few people asked me about the poem that Blake read yesterday, so I figured I should post it here on the blog. It's a poem that Blake told me about back in high school, and that has been bouncing around in my head ever since.

anyone lived in a pretty how town
e.e. cummings

anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn't he danced his did

Women and men(both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isn't they reaped their same
sun moon stars rain

children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
autumn winter spring summer)
that noone loved him more by more

when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief
bird by snow and stir by still
anyone's any was all to her

someones married their everyones
laughed their cryings and did their dance
(sleep wake hope and then)they
said their nevers they slept their dream

stars rain sun moon
(and only the snow can begin to explain
how children are apt to forget to remember
with up so floating many bells down)

one day anyone died i guess
(and noone stooped to kiss his face)
busy folk buried them side by side
little by little and was by was

all by all and deep by deep
and more by more they dream their sleep
noone and anyone earth by april
wish by spirit and if by yes.

Women and men(both dong and ding)
summer autumn winter spring
reaped their sowing and went their came
sun moon stars rain

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday, and to everyone who sent us their best wishes. We were thrilled with how the day went, and that we could share it with all of you.
Photos are coming, they are.

Party Schedule

Planning on coming to the party? Curious when the best parts are going down? Not sure whether to be fashionably late or not? Here's some general info to help you decide.

The party starts at 9. Call us hopelessly optimistic, call us naïve, but we're hoping that people actually do show up at 9. That way, everyone will get to see the cake!

9:45-10-ish: CAKE! Yes, I know, there's cake at the reception, and there was cake at the trail run. And those are good cakes, too. But this cake, at the party... well, let's just say that I expect it it far exceed the birthday cake I made Helen.
10:15-10:30-ish: First Dance. Curious what song we chose? Hoping to feel better about yourself, by seeing someone who dances worse than you do?
10:30-ish and on: At this point, it's a party like any other. Dance, mingle, make yourself at home. There will be beer and wine, there will be juice and soda, there will be chips and salsa and guacamole. Oh, and there will be cake.
